WHEELY-SAFE AGREES NEW TELEMATICS DEAL WITH TRACKUNIT

Published Monday, 19th July 2021

Construction fleets can now connect Wheely-Safe’s latest generation technology through Trackunit telematics.

The two businesses have agreed a deal that will see data garnered via Wheely-Safe’s full suite of intelligent tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), wheel loss and brake temperature sensing technologies transmitted directly to transport managers’ screens via Trackunit software.

With 650,000 units live worldwide, Trackunit is the largest telematics business in the construction sector – providing fleet management solutions to 7,000 customers and 17,000 daily users across the globe.

Gareth Edwards, UK Account Executive at Trackunit, says: “The Wheely-Safe technology is really impressive and will help our customers reduce downtime and improve the health & safety of their operation.

“We work with some major OEMs and, following several conversations, were keen to find a company to help feed this important data on the health and state of the tyre and wheel into our fleet management package.

“In the construction sector the safety of the vehicles is paramount and Wheely-Safe’s TPMS and wheel loss alerts will be a very important tool for our fleets. This new technology is another important step in the continued investment in our product, to ensure we are providing the very best solution for our customers.”

Earlier this year, Wheely-Safe launched a new generation of connected systems which can be configured to ensure drivers of construction trucks and plant receive immediate alerts in the event of an emergency – such as a loosening wheel nut, sticking brakes, hub failure or rapid tyre deflation being detected. But now the use of telematics means these alerts can also be relayed directly to the fleet team, enabling them to contact the driver and ensure immediate action has been taken.

Similarly, notification of non-critical events, such as when a tyre has dropped just below optimum inflation pressure, can be sent directly to the workshop team, allowing rectification work to be organised at the end of a shift, or when the vehicle returns to base, without interrupting the driver or their schedule.

Andy Congrave, Sales Director at Wheely-Safe, says: “Having our technology compatible with major telematics systems such as Trackunit is hugely important and we are looking forward to a long and successful working relationship.

“We know more and more operators increasingly want everything running through their telematics. When combined with our technology, it offers a total peace-of-mind solution.”

Notes to editor:

Wheely-Safe Ltd is a technology start-up founded in 2010 by two lifelong friends – Gary Thomas, a Director of his own transport compliance consultancy, and Gary Broadfield, a Director of Technology and serial inventor for a large Japanese electronics manufacturer. Together they brought the marriage of skills required to help solve wheel loss issues in the automotive sector, and to tackle the huge number of vehicles driving every day on under-inflated tyres. The early years of Wheely-Safe concentrated on attaining worldwide patent protection and technology small enough to fit near the wheels of all vehicle types, from cars and vans to trucks and trailers – with its first products launched into the market during 2018. www.wheely-safe.com
