WHEELY-SAFE COMPLETES FULL FLEET FIT-OUT AT DESI COACHES
Published Monday, 26th September 2022Harrow-based Desi Coaches has protected its entire fleet with the latest generation Wheely-Safe technology.
The public transport operator has installed the in-motion wheel loss detection system, which combines brake and hub temperature monitoring with an intelligent tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), to maintain best practice in health & safety and compliance across its business.
Nilesh Patel, Director, Desi Coaches, says: “I’d heard about the technology in the media a little while ago and thought it sounded like an excellent product. Then recently I saw that it had been recognised by the DVSA so decided it was time to get it installed.
“We take the safety of our passengers and other road users very seriously. A lot of our work is with local schools, transporting children, and we want to guarantee we are running the safest possible vehicles. To have one simple-to-use system in place that protects us against any issues with the wheel or tyre is just good sense.”
Desi Coaches has opted for Wheely-Safe’s external TPMS sensors, which replace the valve cap and auto-pair with an in-cab solar receiver. These are fitted alongside a pair of wheel loss sensors on each wheel. Diagnostic software built into the receiver lets the business know all sensors are working and paired correctly.
The company’s own in-house mechanics fitted the system, following a brief demonstration from Wheely-Safe technicians.
“It was very straightforward to install,” adds Patel. “As well as looking after our own fleet, we do maintenance work for several other operators as well, so naturally we want to be seen to be setting the highest standards across the industry.
“Not only will this kit improve the safety of our vehicles it will also ensure our tyres are always running at optimal pressures – helping to keep our fuel costs down and downtime to a minimum.”
Desi Coaches offers a variety of minibus and coach hire services – including day trips, airport transfers and school transport. Its 17-strong modern mixed fleet ranges from 16-seater minibuses, right up to 74-seat coaches.

Notes to editor:
Wheely-Safe Ltd is a technology start-up founded in 2010 by two lifelong friends – Gary Thomas, a Director of his own transport compliance consultancy, and Gary Broadfield, a Director of Technology and serial inventor for a large Japanese electronics manufacturer. Together they brought the marriage of skills required to help solve wheel loss issues in the automotive sector, and to tackle the huge number of vehicles driving every day on under-inflated tyres. The early years of Wheely-Safe concentrated on attaining worldwide patent protection and technology small enough to fit near the wheels of all vehicle types, from cars and vans to trucks and trailers – with its first products launched into the market during 2018. www.wheely-safe.com
